The Uganda Boston Homeschool Initiative (UBHI) was founded on a powerful belief: that Ugandan families in Boston deserve the freedom and support to educate their children in a way that honors both academic excellence and cultural identity.
UBHI began with Masudi Mugudwa and his wife, Christina, who made the decision to homeschool their own children after encountering challenges within the traditional school system. As they navigated this new path, they quickly realized that there were very few resources or support networks tailored to the unique needs of Ugandan families living in the diaspora. What started as a personal journey soon sparked a broader vision—a desire to build a community where families could come together to share resources, encouragement, and cultural pride.
From those early beginnings, UBHI has grown into a vibrant and welcoming network that empowers Ugandan homeschooling families throughout the Greater Boston area. Our work is rooted in lived experience and driven by a shared commitment to providing children with an education that reflects who they are and where they come from.
Today, UBHI offers a space where parents can find not only practical guidance and academic support, but also a sense of belonging. We celebrate our heritage, pass on our values, and help one another navigate the rewarding, and sometimes challenging, journey of home education. Our mission is deeply personal, shaped by the real-life stories of families like Masudi and Christina’s—and it continues to grow with every new parent who joins the movement.
Whether you're just beginning to explore homeschooling or have already embraced it as your path, UBHI is here to walk alongside you with community, connection, and culturally grounded support.
